Christmas 2006
We had a very enjoyable trip during the Christmas Holiday 2006 to Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.
There were several purposes in this trip:
- To visit Arizona and New Mexico
- To go to Robert's Birthday Party in Texas at New Year
- To spend more time in Utah and Colorado
So we flew after work on December 22 to Phoenix, Arizona. And from there we drove via Sedona and Meteor Crater to the Grand Canyon. We stayed two nights at the Grand Canyon and enjoyed a romantic candle-lit dinner on Christmas Day.
When we left the Grand Canyon, we explored Monument Valley where we were a little disappointed not to see Wile E Coyote and Roadrunner (mee-meep).
The "4 Corners" area of south-west USA is the point where Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah meet. The meeting of 4 states at a single point only occurs at this point in the USA - no other 4 states have a single point of contact.
We also visited Mesa Verde National Park. We hoped to go to Canyon de Chelley in Arizona, however the road was closed because of snow. As it turned out, the weather became quite severe and we spent 2 days in a hotel in Albuquerque watching TV while 2 feet of snow fell outside. However we enjoyed relaxing and being away from home.
The highlight of the trip was to visit my family in Houston, Texas. My brother-in-law Robert was celebrating his 60th Birthday and had a New Year Party for his family and friends. It was really enjoyable and lots of folks came to drink champagne and enjoy the BBQ in his yard. Thanks very much for having this party, Robert. It's always fun to visit you. Presumably something equally fantastic will occur in September when Irene will be enjoying her next "round" birthday.
My run club, Stevens Creek Striders always have a Holiday Party at which Awards are given to some of our members. I'm very proud to have been given "Strider of the Year". Thank you, Striders. This is an honor.
