We'd already 'touched' New Mexico when we visited the 4 Corners Monument, however this was our 'proper' visit to the Enchanted State.
Our plan was to go via through New Mexico to Canyon de Chelley, Arizona. However the road was closed due to snow and we had to turn back. When we arrived in Gallup (of Route66 fame), it was snowing heavily and we decided to stay the night and expected the weather to clear up. Indeed the next morning was fine and we decided to go to Albuquerque with a thought to visit the Atomic Museum.
However just after we crossed the continental divide on I-40 (7200 feet above sea level), the weather changed and it started to snow very heavily. We checked into the first hotel we found and about 2 feet of snow fell in the next 24 hours. It was the heaviest snow fall ever recorded in Albuquerque. Of course nothing could move - the freeways and the airport we closed and we were delayed by 30 hours in going to Houston, Texas to Robert's Party.
So in the end, we spent 3 nights in New Mexico, however most of the time it was snowing so we didn't see very much of it. And we didn't visit any museums or anything in the city - we stayed at the hotel and waited for the weather to clear. Anyway, we got away from Albuquerque on Sunday afternoon, in perfect time to reach Houston for Robert's Birthday Party on New Year's Eve.
