The service was conducted by Canon Gerard Hetherington in St Joseph's RC Church in St Peter Port, Guernsey. The church is beautiful and had a pipe organ which was played very well indeed by Luke. The Bride came down the aisle to "Canon in D" and the procession left to Mendlessohn. While the Register was being signed, the congregation enjoyed the singing of "Ave Maria" and "Tantum Ergo" by Kathryn. It was wonderful - the best music I've ever enjoyed at a wedding.
I don't recall attending a wedding in a RC Church before and the service seemed exactly as it would be in the Church of England. The hymns were "Praise, my soul the King of Heaven" and "Love divine, all loves excelling". There's something really nice about signing with a pipe organ - I've always really enjoyed that since we used to go to St Peter's in Frimley with the Scouts for St George's Day".
Of course no church wedding would be complete without vows, rings, the ringing of bells and vintage cars. And we had all of those ingredients combined with perfect weather and great company to make a really unforgettable experience. It was beautiful.
The guests were transported by coach back to "La Grande Mare" via the coastal road around the north of the island. Ken the driver (from Wales, 40 years resident on Guernsey) entertained us on the bus with his encyclopaedic knowledge of both Guernsey and the USA. Good show!
