Oregon Trail - September 8, 2008

Fall Trip 2008 (8 of 10) :

After we got up and said our goodbyes to friends Rich and Denise and our hosts Mike and Lisa, we went to the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center which we had to pass to reach I-84, the road to Boise, Idaho.

It's really interesting and very well presented. We had a picnic outside, then watched a one hour movie about the Overlanders and toured the wonderful exhibitions. Then we had a 3 mile walk in the sun down to the wagon trail ruts (1.5 miles each way). Very interesting. Gosh, those people were tough.

Then down the Freeway to Boise, Idaho - more of the state hunting business. On the way, the road passes Fairwell Bend on the Snake River. This is where the overlanders left the Snake River after about a month of walking beside it. A series of montain passes faced them before arriving at the Columbia River and the last part of the trail.
