ToFlagstaff, Arizona - May 13, 2008

When we came out of Grand Canyon we drove to Flagstaff, Arizona. By coincidence, Ali and I had driven this road before as far as Cameron and knew it was very scenic.

As we approached Flagstaff, the San Francisco Ranges were covered in a very impressive lenticular cloud formation. This is unusual - I've never seen this before. We were surprised by the shape of the clouds and took a couple of photos from the road. When we got to the hotel, Rich explained that a pilot reported such a formation over Mt Rainier, Washington as a UFO in 1949!

After two nights of very basic shared dormitory accomodation at Phantom Ranch, the Days Inn in Flagstaff seemed like luxury. A nice private shower, clean clothes and off to dinner with Kate and Barkley. All tucked up by 10 o'clock in bed. A long day. Tired out. And of course I had a terrible cold and had lost my voice. None the less, a great and unforgettable day.
