Lower Lake Museum

We went to Clear Lake, California for Memorial Weekend. I don't remember anybody ever mentioning the place to us. When flying into San Francisco, I had noticed a large lake just to the north of the Bay Area. And now we've been there. It's very beautiful.

We drove via Napa and Calistoga which we visited when I ran the Napa Valley Marathon in March 2010. The road climbs steeply out of Calistoga and winds through Robert Louis Stevenson State Park. Because it was pouring, we put off visiting until Monday - when we couldn't find anywhere to park! Good reason for another visit.

We stayed at the City of Clear Lake because it was the shortest drive from home. I couldn't recommend to anybody to stay there, because everywhere else around the Lake is much nicer (and more expensive). We got good value in a motel and a couple of nice dinners. On Sunday we drove round the lake and visited the State Park where we had a hike and talked to the Rangers at the Visitor Center. We enjoyed lunch in Lake Port. There was an Arts'n'Crafts show and a rally of Corvettes in Lake Port. We visited "Switzerland" and Lower Lake in the afternoon.

This is another interesting discovery in California. I would put it on the "worth a visit" , and doesn't make the "must visit" list. Recommended.
