Arizona Marathon (3 of 4) :

We've been in Phoenix a couple of times. We first visited in 2006 and drove around the State Capitol. In 2008, we stayed in a resort in Scottsdale and visited Taliesen West - the home and School of Architecture founded by Frank Lloyd Wright.

This was the first time we've walked about downtown. We went to the expo to collect our bib for the Marathon. We walked 6 miles. Afterwards, we drove the course of the Marathon in the dark. And then dinner with chocolate cake to fuel up for the big run tomorrow.

Downtown Phoenix is a mix of many things. For sure it's much more impressive than San Jose - however almost everywhere is more impressive than San Jose. Like many US Cities is a mix of old (Victorian), new (corporate) and ram-shackle (20th century). The ram-shackle building are a legacy from days when this was the wild west and land was cheap. The city has grown up around those buildings. It's a little bizarre.

I'm very excited to be here and making no predictions about the outcome on Sunday. "Good Luck" messages from Dennis, Robert & Irene and Michelle are very much appreciated.
