New Hampshire

East Coast Trip (8 of 9):

We've spent a couple of days in New Hampshire. We'd made a "drive-through" visit in 2003 and we've had more time on this trip to stay and explore.

We visited the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site, New Hampshire and decided to stay in nearby Lebanon overnight. We had a very nice Indian meal in Hanover. Next morning we went to explore Dartmouth College. It must be nice to go to school in a place like this. In the afternoon, we went for a hike in Francovia Notch - a mountaneous gorge. It took us 1 hour to walk less than a mile! The trail was waterlogged and very muddy, so we tried to walk off the trail. However it was very slow going fighting through the forest brush and turned back. Beautiful River with Waterfalls and Pools.

We stayed overnight in Concord which is the State Capital of New Hampshire. On Sunday morning we went to explore the area around the State Capitol. When possible, we like to take the Capitol Tour as the docents are very knowledgeable about thier State. Unfortunately, no tours in Concord on Saturday or Sunday.

I don't have any words of wisdom concerning New Hampshire. I'm not even very sure what drives the economy in this part of the United States. New Hampshire has great importance in the Presidential Elections. It is always the first state run its primary and is the grave-yard of many Presedential hopefuls.
