Olympic Park

Olympics (13 of of 14 ):

Our son Jamie went to the Olympic Park to see Team GB defeat China 90-58 at Basketball. An emphatic win for our guys.

Britain is a Great country in more than name. A proud moment to show the World that Britain is a place to do business in the 21st Century. Staging these games is a huge credit to our country men and women who bid for, and staged these Games. The amazing achievement of our sports men and women both in the 2008 Beijing Games and now London 2012 are a source of considerable national pride. The motto of the games is "Inspiring a Generation".

The Olympic Park is one of the world's best sporting venues. In addition to the 80,000 seat Athletics Stadium, there is a huge Aquatic Center, Velodrome, Indoor Arena, BMX Track, Concert Bowl and Gardens. Several temporary structures have been erected for hockey, handball and modern pentanthlon. The nearby O2 Arena is being used for Gymnastics, the equestrian events are in Greenwich Park. The Excel Centre in Docklands is host to Boxing, Weighlifting, Judo, Fencing, Table Tennis and Taekwondo. Archery is at Lords Cricket Ground, Triathlon in Hyde Park, Rowing at Eton and Sailing at Weymouth. Shooting at Royal Artillery Barracks, Beach Volleyball at Horse Guards Parade, Canoeing at Lea Valley Whitewater Centre, Tennis at Wimbledon. The Marathon is on closed streets in the City, along the Embankment and the Grandstand Start/Finish in the Mall. Various stadia around the country have been used for Football including: Wembley, London; Old Trafford, Manchester; Hampden Park, Glasgow and The Millenium Park, Cardiff. The 100 mile bike ride was a return trip from the Mall to to Box Hill, Surrey.

I would have liked very much to have gone with Jamie to the Park. Sadly, it's impossible to obtain tickets. However the BBC is broadcasting every event live on 24 HD channels which we can watch on Jamie's 54" 3-D TV. We thought about going to a non-ticket event such as the Marathon - however we get a much better and dryer seat thanks to the BBC.
