It's three years since we last went to the Western States. We're no longer involved with the event and that gave us an opportunity to go and see some of the action. Western States is usually hot 90°F, or very hot 100+°F and today was cool - 70°F. Perfect for course records.
On Saturday we had a 6 mile walk at Forest Hill, watched the runners crossing the river at Rucky Chucky, and were in the Stadium to see the elite runners arrive. We were thrilled when the defending Lady Champion from Scotland set a new course record. Ellie Greenwood beat the previous record, which has stood for 18 years, by 50 minutes.
On Sunday we were in the Stadium when Andrew, being paced by Dennis, completed the event. Anil also finished successfully. Well done to everybody who finished. Our friend Bill, aged 77, tried unsuccessfully to set a new record of oldest finisher. Well Done, Bill. You're an inspiration.
