We've come to Vietnam to attend the wedding of Tuan and Alice. Tuan and I worked together on Google Summer of Code 2013. Together we implemented "Web Ready" a feature to enable images to be processed using standard web protocols. Tuan and Alice are from Vietnam and live in Singapore. On our "round the world" retirement trip we went to visit them. We were delighted to be invited to attend their wedding in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The Event was held in a Wedding Reception Venue. Everything was set up complete with MC, dancers, musicians, lights, flowers - the works. After the introduction of the Wedding Party, cutting the cake and flowing Champagne, we had a magnificent banquet. The musicians performed throughout and some of the guests sang. Karaoke at a Wedding! Well, we're in Vietnam and traditions are different. However the purpose of family and friends meeting to celebrate a marriage is of course identical.
This event was a reception. Alice comes from Hanoi, and perhaps the wedding took place earlier in the week. Or perhaps the wedding is a legal/government ceremony, or for family only. Today there were about 200 family and friends to wish the couple well.
Regrettably, I haven't been well. When I got out of bed in England on Wednesday, I knew I had a cold. By the time we arrived at our hotel in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday lunch-time, all I could do was to crawl into bed and go to sleep for 30 hours. Thankfully, I recovered sufficiently to attend the wedding. After the wedding, I had another 30 hours asleep. On Monday, I had recovered sufficiently to explore the area around the hotel.
It was a privilege to come here and share this special moment with Tuan and Alice. Thank You to both of you and your parents for inviting us to be here today.
