One of the great things about having a daughter-in-law is getting flowers on Mother's Day. It's not that the boys don't love their mother, it's just the thought of sending flowers seems to be more than they can muster. So since Jen became our daughter-in-law in 2005, Ali has received beautiful flowers every year on Mother's Day. Incidentally, Mother's Day in England is in March - it's 3 weeks before Easter. The rest of the world, including America, celebrate this special day on the first weekend in May.

I've always loved Ali ever since we met at school in 1967 - more than 40 years ago now. Goodness, next weekend we'll celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. And I think she gets better looking as she gets older. Mind you, she's hardly changed over the years and these photos prove it. She has never used hair dye - that's 100% genuine almost gray free hair. The flowers sadly wither and die in a couple of weeks - but Ali goes on year after year being calm and beautiful. And I know the boys in England and our Daughter in Law Jen love Ali always.

And of course, thank you to Jen for being the mother of Holly and Liam. On days like this, I'm aware of the grand kids growing up and I am not part of their life. Liam was a couple of months old when I attended his baptism. He'll probably be 2½ before I get to see him again. I hope to have a trip to England in 2010.

On a more sober note, I'm very concerned about the health of my sister Irene in Houston, Texas. She's had pneumonia and been in the ICU several times during the last 6 weeks. Her daughters are with her this weekend. Ali's offered to go to Texas to support and keep Robert company during this ordeal. Get well soon, Irene. You're also another very much loved mother.

And coming up....

Things are going well at work. I've started working on a new project and providing support to the test team as the 'old' project goes through final test. It's been really good working on this project. After it ships, I'll tell you what I've been doing. It's mega cool - you'll be surprised.

We're planning a vacation in 2009 with the 'holiday gang' to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, Wyoming. This will be either July or August - we're still in the planning process at this time. And gosh, with the state of the economy, I'm rather doubtful if this will happen. We'll see.
