Houston Trip 2013

We had a very nice trip to Houston, Texas to visit my sister Irene and Brother-in-Law Robert. The main event of the weekend was to attend the 60th Annual Burns Supper of the Houston Heather & Thistle Society. A Burns Supper is a formal dinner to celebrate the birth of the National Poet of Scotland on January 25, 1756.

At the dinner, the toast: "To the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns" was given by Jack. Jack is a life-long devotee of Burns and was the leader of the project to have a monument to Burns in Houston. On Sunday afternoon, members of the Heather & Thistle Society met at the monument to pay our respect to Scotia's most favourite son.

On Sunday, my niece Fiona came to visit and we enjoyed seeing her and meeting her partner Tommy for the first time. Robert and I have embarked on an interesting project with Jack and we had time to talk together on Monday. All good things pass too quickly and after lunch on Tuesday, Ali and I returned to California.

Thank you everybody who made this such a nice weekend - especially Irene and Robert.
