Marathon - 2012-01-15

Arizona Marathon (4 of 4) :

I had a nice time at the Marathon. Best not to mention my finishing time. I was going good at Mile 19 - 2:57. On course for a 4:05-4:10 finish. I paused at the water stop at 19.5 and knew I was in trouble. I had to walk to the finish. 4:40 something finish. Not good!

Oh, well I'll have better days. Or maybe I'll stick to 10k and Half Marathon and leave the longer runs to others. For sure, I've trained methodically for this. I haven't had a single drink since September and I've lost weight. Maybe I need more 4-5 hour runs, however fitting them into life isn't easy.

We were very pleased with the Hampton Inn in Phoenix. We requested late checkout and it was after 2pm by the time we returned from the event. We left the room at 2:30. No extra charges (of course we left a gratuity). The Hampton's one of favorite hotel chains. We were a little pushed to be back at the Rental Car Lot at PHX for 4:00pm and went into a burger joint on 7th Avenue. It wasn't good which seemed in balance with my performance in the Marathon.

I'm glad we came to Phoenix. I've been busy at work since New Year and it was good to have a break and for Ali and I to spend time together.
