I'm very happy to be a member of BTR Berkshire Trail Runners. I was a founder member, although I take no credit for the creation of the club. It was originally a meetup group managed by Karen Thomas and her husband Hugh Smith. I walked with the group in 2017 and it became a club in 2018 while I was training to pace Michelle at Big Foot 200. The Club is registered with Athletics UK. We normally meet in Bracknell at Great Hollands Recreation Ground. On Sunday morning at 9:30am, the choice is a 5k or 10k run. On the second Sunday of the month, the choice is 8k or 15k. On the last Sunday of the month, the 10k is a "Roving Run" at a location nominated by the run leader. On Friday at 6:30pm, there is a 5k run in the forest. I like all the people in the club. At the age of 73, I find it hard to keep up with the members who are much younger. However I like the challenge of running with the club and hope to run faster when I get to my correct weight of 70kg. I aim to achieve that by my Golden Wedding Anniversary on 27 March 2024. The club is non-competitive. Nobody is left behind. The herd pauses every 10 minutes of so to let the tail-enders catch up. I know all about that, because I'm always last. Photos: click here.
